Geek Stuff

I just wanted to give you the skinny on the technical stuff.

For the ¡D.I.Y. or Die! series I had a bunch of different tools and tried a bunch of things.

Graphic Intro was created in Motion 1.1 using stills from all 3 parts of the DIY series.  The music was created in Soundtrack.

Truth or Consequences was primarliy shot with the DVX100A in 24PA mode.  Some b-roll and the night time fire sequence was shot with the Canon HV20 in cine mode, then converted to DVNTSC with Compressor.

Cutting was done in Final Cut HD… that’s right, 4.5.  Minor color correction and sound also done in FCP.  I exported the final to DVNTSC Quicktime.

Flash conversion was done with ffmpegx from the original DVNTSC Quicktime.  I used the following settings:

video codec: flv

video bitrate: 1800 kbit/s

target size: 120MB

Video Parameters, size 720×404 pixels

16×9 (keep height)

Filters: Deinterlace

Options:  High Quality

Qmin/Qmax: 2/10

Keyframe: 300

Website was built on WordPress 2.8.4 platform with Notes Blog Core Theme (minor tweaks)

WordPress Plugins:

FLV Embed plugin provides flash video player and the video sitemap.  I tested 3 or 4 and although this could use some design love, it’s crazy easy to implement.

Sociable plugin provides integration with various social networking sites.  Not crazy easy… stupid easy.

WP-reCAPTCHA plugin is used for registration and comments, do it because it helps digitize books whose print is illegible by computer.

Contact Form 7 plugin is, guess what, used on the contact page.  Boo-yah.
