California Sole // Keyword “Mom” #3

choir9/7/09  …am in Korea for longer than expected stay for such things as acupuncture treatment, Waiting for Godot performed in Korean at Uijeongbu performing arts center, Lotte Giants vs. LG Twins baseball game in Busan and brother’s wedding August 22nd. There is more enthusiasm for baseball than weddings in Korea; greater appreciation for rivalries than spells of union……blind date this Wednesday with choir girl from MOM’s church, also has a job she attends to regularly, salaried which in Korean means bright future. The less room for spontaneity the brighter the outlook. Don’t want to wait to see the gleam in her face when I tell her that I’m studying to be a Pastor. Hey, everybody lies, nobody minds…

it’s not so bad here. Eating like mad, but now have to be careful about mention of any food as the people around me feel obliged to take me out to be fed the moment I suggest something that resembles it…just today drove two hours each way through a peaceful, misty mountain setting for a famed bbq pork rib house and this after being stuffed with noodles behind a highway structure in the midst of a pile of grade specific dirt on a half developed lot. so not alot of time for the wall, but will post to your inbox later developments.

Too stuffed right now to think about anything else other than the prickly needles awaiting tomorrows appointment with the acupuncture specialist…she’s quite a beauty in her own right, but by the time she sticks the damn things into my legs I’m laying flat on my face losing consciousness from the level of concentration asserted on my breathing. So, you done with thesis? Have one of my own to punch out but Korea isn’t the place…too many distraction to begin with starting with choir girl.

Jin Kim (aka Sole) wanders between the California Bay Area and Busan, South Korea.  He speaks middlin’ Korean, grammar school Italian and Russian and is a fan of Dostoevsky.  Jin works in light construction and has been putting off finishing an MFA in Studio Art for a stupid long time.

The “Keyword” series of California Sole pairs Jin’s tagged photos with text from his correspondences.
